Testnet

Testnet is a parallel blockchain to Bitcoin’s blockchain.

Testnet is a parallel blockchain to Bitcoin’s blockchain. It works almost identically to the Bitcoin network, but it is used for testing and development. Testnet bitcoin are entirely separate from mainnet (real) bitcoin, and are not monetized.

This is done in order to allow developers to test their software without putting money at risk, paying fees, or congesting the blockchain. To make testing easier, the difficulty is much lower on testnet relative to the Bitcoin network. This allows blocks to be mined faster and for test transactions to be confirmed more rapidly.
